Baklava is this heavenly Mediterranean treat that's divine on its own. However, there are many different ways you can enjoy your favorite flavor of baklava. Here are 5 ideas to help elevate the baklava experience:
1. Pair with a cup of mint-infused green tea
Green tea, infused with freshly picked mint leaves, is a hit across many Mediterranean and Arabic countries.
The combination of the rich honey in the baklava and the fresh fragrance and acidity of green tea will take you back to your favorite tea spot during your trip in the Mediterranean.
This tea is so simple to make and will only take you a couple of minutes to prepare. Simply prepare a regular green tea and add in a couple of fresh mint leaves after brewing the tea.
2. Enjoy with strong Arabic or espresso coffee
Arabic coffee is probably one of the strongest cup of coffee you'll ever have. It's made with thinly ground coffee and subtly mixed with spices such as cardamom.
We recommend using the Turkish coffee brand, Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi. If you don't have Turkish coffee on hand, a regular espresso would work too. Similar to the tea, the bitterness of the coffee and the sweetness of the baklava will have your soul filled with joy.
3. Make Baklava ice cream
Don't worry, you don't have to make the baklava ice cream from scratch and this can be prepared in just a couple of minutes! Simply cut up your baklava into small chunks and garnish on top of your favorite vanilla or cream ice cream. Add in additional crushed nuts as needed.
4. Add to your favorite breakfast yogurt
Baklava might be very sweet. However, it is packed with protein and sugars that can give a boost to your breakfast. Simply add small chunks into some plain or Greek Yogurt, and you'll get a boost of energy in no time!
5. Make an ice cream sandwich
All you'll need here is a piece of baklava and a scoop of ice cream. Just slice your almond or pistachio in half and add a small scoop of your favorite ice cream into the middle of the baklava!
